Decal Install Instructions

You’ve purchased decals from DMF Maison. Yay, we’re so excited! You’re well on your way to creating a vibe in your home that is all your own. For best results, follow the instructions below!

  • Pair of scissors

  • Masking tape

  • Smoothing tool (e.g., ruler or old credit card)

  • Choose your decal destination carefully. Decals are intended for one-time application.

  • DMF Maison decals come on one continuous sheet so that the design is preserved. Use scissors to cut around each design.

  • Tape decals (with white backing still on!) to your intended surface to ensure they are just where you want them.

  • Once you’ve got decals in the perfect spot, you’re ready to start peeling, pressing, and folding.

  • Remove masking tape holding up the first decal.

  • Press and fold one corner of the white backing over.

  • SLOWLY (seriously, take your time) peel the white backing from the design and press the exposed section back on the wall. Do this at a 45 degree angle.

  • Continue to peel off the white backing and rub the exposed design onto the wall.

  • Entire decal not transferring? No worries. Just press it down again and try giving it a quick scratch from the transfer tape side.

  • Once decal is fully on the wall, starting from a corner, slowly peel the transfer tape away at a 45 degree angle.

  • Repeat for each cutout.

  • Use decals on matte, eggshell, satin, or semi gloss paint.

  • Avoid textured concrete, stucco, or drywall.

  • Make sure the decal with exposed adhesive doesn’t fold over onto itself once the white backing has been removed. That stuff is sticky!

  • Sometimes two is better than one. Ask for a friend’s help if you’re working with a larger design.

Whether you’re moving, ready for a new decal design, or looking to change up your space entirely, there may come a time when you want to remove your decal decor. That’s why we designed our decals for easy removal without damage to your surfaces. You can easily remove our decals by peeling them away, starting in one corner. You can also use a hair dryer for the tougher ones. Power that baby up and aim it at a corner of the design. The decal will release its grip as it heats up. Using a pair of tweezers, peel the decal away at a 45 degree angle.
